The day started off with a decline, as the expected 25-basis point cut by the Fed on Wednesday was already priced in, while the caution the US central bank showed in its statement led markets to believe a more restrained year is looming, according to a PIMCO commentary. However, toward the end of the session, certain blue chips recovered and offset all of the benchmark\u2019s early losses.<\/p>\n<p>The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,456.28 points, adding 0.04% to Wednesday\u2019s 1,455.67 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index expanded 0.09%, ending at 3,546.39 points.<\/p>\n<p>The banks index advanced 0.62%, as Eurobank grew 1.13%, National fetched 0.88% and Piraeus earned 0.43%, though Alpha parted with 0.44%.
