The announcement of the next James Bond could come before the end of 2026, with Amazon MGM Studios accelerating its search for Daniel Craig’s successor and preparing to launch a new era for the iconic 007 franchise.
After years of speculation, producers appear increasingly close to making their decision. Producer Amy Pascal has indicated that the casting process requires particular care, with replacing Craig representing one of the biggest challenges facing the franchise.

36-year-old Callum Turner also remains a strong contender following his performance in Masters of the Air.
The shortlist also reportedly includes 43-year-old Irish actor Aidan Turner, known for Poldark, The Hobbit and Rivals.
Age appears to play an important role in the selection process. Craig was 38 when he debuted as Bond in Casino Royale in 2006 and was 53 when he completed his run as the character.
Villeneuve and Knight lead the new Bond team
The creative team for the next Bond film has already taken shape.
Denis Villeneuve will direct the film. The acclaimed filmmaker directed both Dune films and will oversee the next chapter of the long-running franchise.
Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders, will write the screenplay. Knight has said he wants to give Bond a fresh direction while remaining faithful to the spirit of Ian Fleming’s books.
Production is expected to begin in 2027, with the new Bond film scheduled for release in 2028.

Meanwhile, one of the names most frequently linked with the role, Idris Elba, has effectively ended speculation that he could become the next 007.
The British actor said he was never genuinely close to securing the role and argued that James Bond continues to face different perceptions in some international markets.
