Kosovo MP Throws Eggs at Acting Prime Minister (VIDEO)

Chaos erupted in Kosovo’s parliament on Saturday when a female opposition MP threw eggs at acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, forcing the session to stop.

The incident occurred as parliament tried to overcome a prolonged political deadlock following the snap election on June 7.

Tensions escalated after Kurti told MPs that he needed more time for consultations over the formation of a new government.

Shortly afterwards, an opposition MP threw eggs at Kurti inside the parliamentary chamber, prompting officials to suspend the session.

Political deadlock

The incident provided another sign of the deeply confrontational atmosphere surrounding Kosovo’s political scene.

The June 7 election did not give Kurti’s Vetëvendosje (Self-Determination) party the parliamentary majority it needs to govern without support from other political forces.

Negotiations over the formation of a government have remained difficult since the election, leaving Kosovo facing prolonged political instability.

Kurti remains head of the caretaker government and is seeking the parliamentary support needed to form a new administration.

The opposition, however, is demanding an end to the political crisis and has objected to efforts to extend the government-formation consultations.
