The body found inside a cave on Lycabettus Hill has been identified as that of a 57-year-old woman who had been reported missing from the Kypseli neighbourhood, according to forensic identification.
Her death is estimated to have occurred one and a half to two days earlier. The cause is believed to be a fall from a height, supported by a fracture found in the woman’s arm.
The grim discovery was made by a passer-by who immediately alerted the police.
The first officers to arrive at the scene found the body in an advanced state of decomposition inside the cave, next to the chapel of Saints Isidore. They cordoned off the area so that the investigation could begin.
The 57-year-old was found wearing a blue sleeveless top. The position in which she was discovered and the injuries indicate a fall from a height.
The autopsy that will follow is expected to confirm the initial findings and provide a clearer picture of the circumstances of her death.
Meanwhile, the police continue their investigation to determine how and under what conditions the 57-year-old ended up at the location, and whether any incident led to the fall.
