Turkish media have highlighted recent remarks by Defense Minister Yaşar Güler concerning Syria and Israel, framing them as Ankara’s latest warning to Tel Aviv.
In his statements, Güler said Turkey is working closely with the Damascus government to promote stability in the region and to uphold Syria’s sovereignty. He added that Ankara is closely monitoring what it describes as an increase in tension caused by Israeli actions in Syria and is taking all necessary measures in response.
Behind the official language lies a clearer strategic disagreement. Turkey is pressing for a full Israeli withdrawal from Syrian territory. Ankara itself seeks greater economic and military influence in southern Syria—an ambition that Israel regards as a red line.
Israel, for its part, has repeatedly made clear that it has no intention of leaving either Syria or Lebanon.
Turkish officials and commentators appear particularly concerned that Israel’s continued military presence in southern Syria could serve as a bridgehead for the so-called “David Corridor.” This proposed route would link Israel with Kurdish forces in Syria and potentially reshape the regional balance of power—an outcome Ankara views as a direct threat to its interests.
As the rhetoric intensifies on both sides, observers note that the already strained relationship between Turkey and Israel is entering a more dangerous phase. Many analysts warn that Ankara is playing a high-stakes game that risks further escalation.
