Authorities have declared tap water in the village of Siviri, in the Municipality of Kassandra, Halkidiki, temporarily unfit for human consumption after microbiological contamination was detected in the local water supply.
The Municipality of Kassandra announced that microbiological testing of drinking water samples identified contaminants that the competent public health authority considers a potential risk to public health.
Following instructions from the Halkidiki Regional Public Health and Social Welfare Directorate, municipal authorities have begun disinfecting the water network through chlorination, carrying out repeat sampling and laboratory testing, and investigating the source of the contamination.
Until the work is completed and laboratory results confirm the water is safe, residents have been advised not to use tap water for drinking, food preparation or brushing their teeth.
Authorities also recommend using bottled water or water that has been thoroughly boiled as a precaution.
