A Russian drone strike has damaged the Holy Spirit Cathedral in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson, with the church suffering structural damage and nearby residential buildings also affected.
According to initial reports, the attack shattered the cathedral’s windows and caused damage to surrounding homes. No casualties have been reported.
The Holy Spirit Cathedral has been repeatedly targeted since the beginning of 2026. On Orthodox Christmas Day in January, shelling struck the cathedral’s main dome and surrounding grounds. In February, additional attacks damaged the roof, bell tower and one of the chapels.
In April, two shells hit the roof, sparking a fire that destroyed sections of the ceiling and caused extensive damage to the cathedral’s central altar, interior walls, historic murals and nearby buildings.
While the loss of life remains the greatest tragedy of the war, the continued destruction of cultural and religious heritage has also become a significant consequence of the conflict.
The latest strike adds to the growing list of historic churches, monuments and cultural sites damaged during the war in Ukraine.
