Greek-Interest Cargo Ship Hit by Missile in Strait of Hormuz – One Sailor Missing

A cargo ship of Greek interests was damaged in a missile attack near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, 4 August 2026. One sailor is missing.

The Liberian-flagged vessel was sailing on the Omani side of the strait when a missile struck its engine room, triggering a fire. The incident took place approximately 20 nautical miles (37 kilometres) from the coastal city of Al Khasab in Oman.

Initial reports from the British Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) and the shipping publication Tradewinds confirmed the attack. No further details have been released regarding the identity of the missing crew member or the current status of the vessel.

The incident adds to growing concerns over navigation safety in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes.
