Eight foreigners arrested in Lefkada after drugs found on UK-flagged catamaran – Greek City Times

Hellenic Coast Guard officers arrested eight foreign nationals in Lefkada on Thursday morning after discovering a variety of narcotics on a private sailing catamaran.

The operation took place at the port of Perigiali. Officers from the Security Office of the Lefkada Port Authority, working with the Nidri Maritime Police Station, the Special Missions Unit, the Regional Drug Suppression Team of Igoumenitsa, the Lefkada Drug Suppression Department and a Hellenic Police K-9 unit, carried out a search of the United Kingdom-flagged vessel in the presence of a judicial officer.

The eight suspects are:

  • 4 Israeli citizens
  • 1 Turkish citizen
  • 1 Italian citizen
  • 1 Spanish citizen
  • 1 Latvian citizen

Seized items

Authorities found and confiscated:

  • 55.6 grams of raw cannabis
  • 10 grams of crystalline methamphetamine (MDMA)
  • 13 ecstasy tablets
  • 8.1 grams of cocaine
  • 12 blue pills of unknown chemical composition
  • Plates with cannabis residue and two plastic grinders
  • Banknotes with cocaine traces
  • €7,000, 3,240 Israeli shekels and $563
  • Eight mobile phones, two tablets and one laptop

The catamaran itself was also seized.

The Hellenic Coast Guard is conducting the preliminary investigation. The arrests were made following information received by the authorities.
