Eleni Diavati and Milena Kontou crowned world champions in women’s double sculls
Milena Kontou and Eleni Diavati claimed the gold medal in the women’s double sculls at the World Rowing Under-23 Championships in Duisburg, Germany, rising to the top of the world.
Emotion ran high during the medal ceremony. Nineteen-year-old Eleni Diavati could not hold back her tears as the Greek national anthem played, marking the greatest achievement of her career so far. The athlete from Corfu started rowing at the age of 11 and now competes for Argonautes Volos.
Milena Kontou also celebrated the victory, adding another major title to her strong record. The Greek rower previously won bronze at the Paris Olympics and has collected multiple medals at European and World Championships.
