Greek music legend Mary Linda has died at the age of 91, passing away peacefully in the early hours of Tuesday, July 22, at the Athens Nursing Home.
The renowned singer died at approximately 5:00 a.m. while surrounded by her daughter, Evangelia, and members of the nursing home’s administration and staff.
Mary Linda had lived at the Athens Nursing Home since October 31, 2018, after choosing to move into the facility of her own accord. She had expressed confidence in the level of care, safety and support it provided to its residents.
The Athens Nursing Home announced her passing in a statement, saying she “passed away peacefully and calmly” with her loved ones by her side.
The Board of the Benevolent Society of Athens also expressed its deep sorrow over the loss of one of Greece’s most celebrated performers, paying tribute to her enduring contribution to Greek music and culture.
Mary Linda leaves behind a lasting legacy as one of the most influential voices in Greek popular music, with a career that spanned decades and earned her a cherished place in the country’s cultural history.
