Specialised teams from the Attica Region’s Mosquito Control Department began preventive spraying in parts of Glyfada early this morning, following a confirmed case of West Nile virus in the area.
The spraying operations are focused on streets around Zamanou, Iras, Ermou, and Ariadnis in close cooperation with the Municipality of Glyfada and public health authorities.
At each sprayed location, crews placed protective tape and informational signs marked “CAUTION”, advising residents and passers-by not to touch sprayed surfaces such as foliage and other elements in the demarcated areas.
Municipality Urges Calm and Precautions
The Municipality of Glyfada moved quickly to inform residents, posting announcements on affected streets on July 15. Local authorities emphasised that there is no cause for concern, while urging citizens to take simple protective measures, such as keeping pets indoors and not leaving clothes on balconies during spraying.
How West Nile Virus is Transmitted
Health authorities remind the public that the West Nile virus is transmitted exclusively through the bite of infected mosquitoes (primarily the common mosquito) and is not transmitted from person to person.
Citizens are encouraged to follow personal protection measures against mosquito bites, especially in outdoor spaces.
