Greek Olympic champion Miltos Tentoglou delivered another statement performance on Friday night, producing a sensational world-leading jump of 8.61 metres to win the Monaco Diamond League in dramatic fashion.
Tentoglou saved his best for last, unleashing the winning leap on his sixth and final attempt to cap off a superb evening against one of the strongest long jump fields of the season.
The Greek star opened the competition with an impressive 8.48m, immediately putting himself among the frontrunners. After remaining in contention throughout the event, he produced the decisive jump of 8.61m, extending the world-leading mark and once again underlining why he is regarded as the athlete to beat this season.
Jamaica’s Wayne Pinnock finished second with 8.39m, while Cuba’s Lester Lescay claimed third place with 8.38m.
The victory is another significant milestone for Tentoglou as he builds towards the 2026 World Athletics Championships. Having already entered Monaco with the season’s best jump, he improved that mark by 12 centimetres and further strengthened his status as the favourite to defend his place among the world’s elite.
The Monaco Diamond League also featured several outstanding performances, including Emmanuel Wanyonyi of Kenya setting a new world record in the men’s 1,000 metres and Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia recording the third-fastest women’s 200 metres in history, making it one of the highest-quality meetings of the season.
