Bank of Greece Governor Yannis Stournaras told Italian newspaper Avvenire that the crises of recent years have shown just how vulnerable Europe is.
He noted that coordinated investment in infrastructure, interconnections and the diversification of energy sources are needed, as well as accelerating the use of renewable sources.
Stournaras explained that this is not just an environmental goal but a matter of economic security and noted that it is necessary to strengthen common crisis management tools.
“The experience of the pandemic has shown that joint initiatives, such as European investment programs, can have a significant impact. Integrating these tools into Europe’s institutional framework would help stabilize the economy and support long-term growth,” he noted.
