A 48-year-old novice monk from Serbia is being treated in intensive care after jumping from a moving ambulance in northern Greece, police said.

The incident occurred on Tuesday while the man was being transported from Ouranoupoli to Polygyros. Authorities said the monk had earlier reported feeling unwell, with symptoms suggesting a possible heart condition.

During the journey, investigators believe the man may have unbuckled his seat belt before jumping from the vehicle. The exact circumstances remain under investigation.

He was initially taken to Halkidiki General Hospital in Polygyros but was later transferred to Ippokratio Hospital for further treatment, where he has been intubated.

Two ambulance crew members were temporarily arrested on suspicion of negligent bodily harm. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
