The government is weighing its response after PASOK filed a proposal for a preliminary investigative committee targeting former ministers Spilios Livanos and Fotini Arabatzi over a case linked to the OPEKEPE farm subsidies case.
Government officials said no final decision has been made, with discussions expected to continue in the coming days.
According to reports, officials are considering a common approach for both former ministers, who are named in the latest case file submitted to Parliament.
Livanos rejected the accusations, saying that although he “highlighted the long-standing OPEKEPE scandal in 2021” and “fought to limit it,” “for today’s PASOK, petty political expediency prevails over the truth.”
He added that information he plans to provide to Parliament and the Greek public “will overturn this irresponsible PASOK initiative.”
Arabatzi also denied wrongdoing, calling references to her involvement “completely baseless and unfounded” and saying that “no act of mine caused harm.”
The government now faces several choices, including whether to reject the proposal, approve a full investigation, or follow the “Triantopoulos model” by referring the matter to the Judicial Council.
PASOK said its proposal aims to maintain pressure on the government and keep the issue in public focus.
