A 73-year-old man has been arrested in Athens on suspicion of having tried to rob a shop employee at gunpoint, police said Thursday.
A police statement said the suspect allegedly entered the business in the central Kolonos district Wednesday, pulled a handgun and demanded cash. But the employee refused to cooperate and the would-be robber was forced to beat a hasty exit.
A police patrol located him later in the day following an extensive sweep of the area, and a search of his home revealed the gun allegedly used in the failed holdup.
