The conservative government will seek to revise the country’s constitution to remove any potential legal impediment to the operation of private universities, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said Thursday.

Mitsotakis said that the revision would begin in the coming months and would include changes to Article 16 of the constitution “so that here remains no institutional question on the operation of [private universities] in our country,” he said.

He added that his government hopes to make Greece a regional educational center.

Mitsotakis spoke during a ceremony in Athens for the inauguration of a local branch of Cyprus’ University of Nicosia. Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides attended the ceremony.
