Tempe trial defendant sues minister

[Intime News]

A former inspector for Hellenic Railways, the state-owned company that oversees Greece’s rail networks, who finds himself accused of dereliction of duty in the trial about Greece’s deadliest rail disaster, said Tuesday, through his lawyer, that he will sue Alternate Infrastructure and Transport Minister Konstantinos Kyrianakis over a written statement he submitted to the Office of the State Counsel regarding the presence, in the trial, of lawyers representing the ministry in support of the prosecution’s case.

Kyranakis had referred to the “moral injury” and material damage suffered by the state because of the disruption of transport operations as a result of the Feb. 28, 2023 accident, which killed 57. Disruption of transport operations, a felony, is the most serious charge faced by some of the 36 defendants. The inspector said that he will sue the minister for slander and false accusation.
