Police in Thessaloniki have arrested the mother of a five-year-old boy who, having been left alone in the family’s 6th floor apartment, allegedly tossed a vacuum cleaner and other heavy objects over the balcony onto a busy avenue below.
No injuries were recorded from Tuesday’s incident. Police were summoned to the apartment building on Vassileos Georgiou Avenue after several objects were rained down to street level from the sixth floor.
State ERT television said the five-year-old spent almost an hour dumping overboard items including stones, the vacuum cleaner, a pail and mop, board games and playing cards.
Police were able to access the balcony from a neighboring flat, as the front door was locked, and took the boy away. When his mother returned home she was arrested and faces charges of exposing a minor to danger.
A prosecutor ordered the boy to be temporarily put up with a friend of the family pending the process against his mother.
