Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Sunday said Greece’s upgraded strategic partnership with France marks a deepening of bilateral ties across defense, economic and technological sectors following the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Athens.
In his weekly social media post, Mitsotakis said the agreement “confirms the strategic choice we made in 2021 to strengthen Greece-France relations, turning it into a strong, multi-level alliance.”
He described the new “Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” as broad in scope, covering defense and security as well as the economy, civil protection, migration, technology, environment, education and culture.
“It is a wide strategic agreement that further deepens relations and creates new opportunities, from artificial intelligence to cybersecurity,” he said.
Mitsotakis said the renewed defense cooperation reinforces deterrence and strengthens Greece’s geopolitical position in the Mediterranean.
“Greece and France are EU and NATO members, but also a strong axis in the Mediterranean,” he said, citing cooperation on support for Cyprus as an example of European solidarity.
He added that the partnership aligns with efforts to promote a more autonomous and competitive Europe capable of acting with confidence in an uncertain global environment.
