Ten people have been arrested during a police raid on a Roma camp west of Athens Tuesday in which power company officials removed more than two kilometers of cables used for illegal electricity connections, authorities said.

A police statement said the suspects faced charges including electricity theft, environmental crimes and firearms offenses. Officers used a drone and a sniffer dog in the raid on the outskirts of Aspropyrgos. Finds included two stolen shotguns discovered hidden in a septic tank.

“The purpose of the operation was to forestall and address every form of illegal activity that has been recorded in the area,” the police statement said.

Traffic police taking part in the raid also issued 30 fines for assorted violations of the highway code.
