Traffic chaos erupted Monday morning on the Athens-Thessaloniki national highway near Sindos, about 14 kilometers northwest of Thessaloniki in northern Greece, after a young cow wandered onto the roadway, authorities said.

The incident caused significant disruption as the animal ran uncontrollably between passing vehicles, forcing drivers to slow abruptly and creating hazardous conditions.

It took considerable time for the cow’s owner to regain control of the animal, with assistance from police, who temporarily shut down the road to ensure public safety.

According to state broadcaster ERT, the cow had escaped the owner’s supervision in Kalochori, a village about 6 kilometers from Thessaloniki. After traveling a considerable distance, it eventually made its way onto the highway near Sindos.

No injuries were reported.
