Police have arrested three individuals in connection with a hit-and-run accident in Athens on Saturday afternoon, in which a 16-year-old girl was seriously injured. She remains hospitalized, with doctors describing her condition as critical.

The incident occurred on Liosion Street, where the teenager was struck by a motorbike while crossing the road. Two people were riding the motorcycle at the time. Both fell off during the collision but quickly remounted the bike and fled the scene, leaving the injured girl behind without offering assistance.

According to police, the owner of the motorbike, a 20-year-old woman, was among those arrested. Authorities said she appeared at a police station in the Kypseli district approximately two hours after the incident, claiming her motorcycle had been stolen. Investigators determined the claim to be false.

The woman also identified a peer who accompanied her to the station as the driver of the motorbike. That individual was subsequently taken into custody.

A third arrest was made late Saturday night when a 22-year-old man presented himself to police, stating that he had been the passenger on the motorcycle involved in the crash. He told officers he did not know the driver’s full identity, providing only a first name.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
