Southerly winds carrying desert dust across the Mediterranean from Africa contributed to murky, yellowish-orange skies across much of southern Greece Tuesday.
Conditions are forecast to deteriorate further Wednesday, particularly on Crete, the southeastern Dodecanese islands and in western Greece.
For Friday the forecast also involves rain in several parts of southern Greece which, combined with the dust from the Sahara, is expected to liberally spatter everything it touches with mud.
The phenomenon occurs every year, particularly in late winter and early spring.
