Three migrant boat rescues carried out south of Crete on Easter Sunday

Greek authorities carried out three separate search-and-rescue operations south of Crete on Easter Sunday after migrant boats carrying a total of 91 people were detected off the coast.

In the latest incident, a FRONTEX vessel, assisted by drone surveillance, located a boat carrying 35 people about 55 nautical miles southeast of Kaloi Limenes.

Earlier, a coast guard vessel and drone found 22 people aboard another boat roughly 45 nautical miles southeast.

In a separate operation, 34 people were rescued about 44 nautical miles south of the area.

The migrants are expected to be transferred to Kaloi Limenes before being moved to a temporary reception facility in Iraklio.
