Thousands of people took part in the candlelit Epitaphios procession in central Athens on Good Friday, marking one of the most solemn moments of Holy Week.
Clergy led the procession while chanting hymns of lamentation, making three ceremonial stops along the route, including in front of Parliament and the Monument to the Unknown Soldier.
Earlier, at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens, large crowds gathered for the lamentation service presided over by Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece. Representatives of the state, armed forces and the security forces attended the ceremony, filling the cathedral to capacity.
Epitaphios services and processions took place across the country.
