Former prime minister Alexis Tsipras confirmed plans to launch a new political party, targeting September as the likely launch date, barring unexpected political developments.
In an interview with Antenna TV, Tsipras said the new movement would be born “within society, from society, for society” – deliberately outside Parliament. He ruled out sitting lawmakers joining the initial effort, noting the party would launch without a parliamentary group.
The former SYRIZA leader acknowledged former allies would be welcome but warned there would be “no reserved seats in the front row.” He also struck a reflective tone, saying he is “not the same Tsipras” as before, adding: “I have suffered and I have learned – from people, from their behavior, from my mistakes.”
On elections, Tsipras said his personal assessment is that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will not call early elections.
