Long-serving sports journalist Manolis Mavrommatis, a household name in Greece, has been discharged from a rehabilitation center after two years of treatment for injuries sustained in a major fire at his Athens apartment.
Mavrommatis, also a former MEP, and his wife, Rena Venieri, were rescued from the heavily damaged flat and admitted to the intensive care unit at the capital’s Georgios Gennimatas Hospital.
Despite the efforts of medical teams, Venieri died four months after being hospitalized.
Following his discharge, Mavrommatis was reportedly accompanied to his new home by his son.
