Rural Development and Food Minister Kostas Tsiaras highlighted at the European Union’s Agriculture and Fisheries Council, held in Brussels on Monday, the need for immediate and substantive support for European farmers, as well as the rising cost of farm production.
He stressed that the agrifood sector constitutes a strategic pillar for Europe, particularly in an environment of heightened pressures linked to energy costs and international developments, adding that the sustainability of agricultural holdings is under strain.
Tsiaras particularly emphasized the increased cost of inputs, placing emphasis primarily on energy and fertilizers, and underscored the need for targeted European interventions to help contain the burden on farmers.
