A police officer formerly stationed at Greece’s Parliament is embroiled in disturbing allegations, including sexual abuse and rape, as well as a financial investigation into possible illicit activities.
The officer, accused of heinous crimes against his children, was jailed following a five-hour testimony. Despite denying the charges, including serial child rape and incest, the court was not persuaded by his defense.
His wife, also a police officer, has been a central witness in the case, claiming prolonged abuse within the household in Koropi in eastern Attica. Psychologists and psychiatrists who previously evaluated the officer and his wife are now under review, as authorities examine potential oversight in identifying warning signs.
Meanwhile, Greece’s anti-money laundering authority has initiated a parallel investigation. Questions have surfaced about the officer’s luxurious lifestyle, which may not align with his income. Charalampos Vourliotis, the head of the authority, ordered a financial probe to determine whether the officer’s wealth is tied to criminal activities. Investigators will analyze his assets to ensure their legitimacy.
The officer’s lawyer has countered the allegations, calling for a psychiatric evaluation of the complainant, citing her mental health treatment.
