More details of Lavrio €1.1 million heist come to light

Following the arrest of six suspects, more details have come to light about the methods used by the perpetrators of the €1.1 million cash delivery van robbery in Lavrio at noon on September 26.

The driver of the money delivery van is among those arrested for the heist, which occurred outside a toy store.

According to new information, the perpetrators, at midnight on September 22, used a stolen black motorcycle to approach and steal a green Ford vehicle, which they later used in the robbery a few twenty-four hours later.

On the day of the robbery, they communicated with the van driver by cell phone, who informed them that his colleague had entered the toy store to collect a delivery of cash.

Three of the driver’s accomplices, wearing white overalls and surgical masks, then approached the vehicle from the rear, slashed its tires and using mock explosive devices and weapons, threw paint on the windshield and pulled the driver out of the vehicle.

Within a short time, they had grabbed over €1 million and headed directly to their base, where they abandoned the vehicle.

Earlier, police sources said the suspects were betrayed by their sudden and unexplained increase in spending.

One of the suspects, a 56-year-old man, left the same day for Albania, while the others returned to their original meeting point in Agios Dimitrios in Athens.

They tried to cover their tracks by emptying a bottle of bleach into the car, avoiding routes with security cameras and committing the robbery in a blind spot.

However, forensic examination of the fireworks they used in the robbery revealed genetic material.

Two of the suspects, who all maintain their innocence, according to their lawyer, are a father and son.

The suspects have been given a deadline until Monday to testify before an investigation magistrate.
