Former tourism minister Harry Theoharis is Greece’s candidate for the role of secretary-general of the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism).
The election of the new leadership of UN Tourism will take place on May 29-30 in Madrid. Harry Theoharis, as minister of tourism, played a pivotal role in revitalizing the Greek tourism sector following the pandemic.
His tenure was marked by reforms, including sustainability initiatives, digital transformation, and administrative modernization. He aims to extend these reforms within UN Tourism.
Theoharis said in a statement that the UN Tourism elections represent a great opportunity, a decisive step toward shaping the future of global tourism.
Cyprus is giving its support to Theoharis, its deputy minister for tourism, Kostas Koumis, said this week.
