A badly burned body found midday on Thursday in a field in Serres, northern Greece, is believed to belong to a 59-year-old man who strangled his wife to death earlier in the day.
According to state broadcaster ERT, the body was found some 500 meters from the house, in the village of Sitochori, where a 52-year-old woman was found dead on Thursday morning.
The husband, aged 59, had reportedly called the police to report the crime and then disappeared before officers arrived at the scene.
He is said to have left a note expressing his intention to kill himself.
