A story of tragedy and hope unfolds in Heraklion as the heart of 3-year-old Angelos will continue to beat in Berlin, offering a second chance at life to another child.
Following his brain death, his grandmother made the courageous decision to donate his organs, ensuring that his legacy lives on through others.
Life-Saving Transplants
According to exclusive information from the National Transplant Organization (NTO), Angelos‘ heart will be transplanted to a child of the same age in Berlin. On Tuesday morning at 6:30 AM, a team of German doctors departed from Heraklion University Hospital (PAGNI) carrying the precious organ.
Meanwhile, a medical team from Evangelismos Hospital in Athens took charge of Angelos’ kidneys, which will be transplanted into an adult recipient. Due to their small size, both kidneys will be given to a single patient, as no children in Greece are currently listed as needing a kidney transplant.
Legal Developments
As the young boy’s life comes to a tragic end, the legal case surrounding his death takes a significant turn. Authorities have upgraded the charges against his mother and her partner from attempted premeditated murder to premeditated and joint murder. The investigation continues as the justice system seeks answers in this heartbreaking case.

Despite the sorrow surrounding Angelos’ passing, his family’s decision to donate his organs offers a ray of hope to those in need, reinforcing the importance of organ donation and the gift of life.
