Two men, aged 32 and 47, and a woman aged 50 have been arrested in an ongoing investigation into a racket that is said to have fleeced a 72-year-old man out of thousands of euros.
According to a police announcement on Saturday, the woman posed as a fortune teller and convinced the older man to make all sorts of “investments.” When the victim was unable to meet her continued demands for money, she arranged for him to borrow cash from her accomplices, at an exorbitant rate.
The incident took place in the West Attica town of Megara and the 72-year-old is said to have been on the hook for more than 850,000 euros.
