Greece Imposes Strict Penalties On Uninsured And Uninspected Vehicles

According to initial estimates, approximately 500,000 vehicles in Greece remain uninsured, while over 2 million have not undergone the required technical inspection, posing significant risks to road safety.

To address this issue, authorities will conduct electronic checks twice a year using data verification. Offenders will face strict fines, starting at 250 euros and escalating to 30,000 euros for repeated violations.

Details of Penalties:

Owners of vehicles that have not undergone the mandatory technical inspection will face a €400 fine.

Uninsured Vehicles:

€1,000 fine for public transport buses and commercial trucks

€500 fine for passenger cars and other vehicles

€250 fine for motorcycles

Unpaid Road Taxes:

If at least one year of road tax is unpaid, the fine will equal the outstanding amount plus the full annual road tax due.
