The Pakistani community of Greece will demonstrate in front of the Indian Embassy in Athens on Sunday in the name of the so-called Kashmir Solidarity Day.
When the Pakistani community of Greece holds its twice-a-year demonstration outside the Indian Embassy tomorrow, the Pakistani Embassy will be open tomorrow under the guise of providing Consular Services despite being usually closed on Sunday.
This has become a common theme, with the Pakistani Embassy opening on Sunday every when these protests occur year after year.
The Pakistan Embassy invites its diaspora to come to Athens in the name of Consular Services, but it is actually a call for mobilization to participate in the demonstration against India, which violates Diplomatic regulations.
The Greek government must take action against the Pakistan Embassy for violating diplomatic regulations and not ignore it, as it has in previous years.
What was Article 370 that the Pakistanis are protesting over?
Article 370 gave Jammu and Kashmir its own Constitution and decision-making rights for all matters, barring defense, communications, and foreign affairs. Its removal ended the state’s special status.
Article 370 contained Article 35A, which allowed the erstwhile state to define who it acknowledged as permanent residents and gave them special rights, such as government jobs and property ownership.
However, as mentioned in the constitution and pointed out by the court during the judgment, Article 370 was a temporary measure.
In 1951, a Constitution Assembly was elected for Jammu and Kashmir to formulate the constitution within the ambit of the Indian Constitution and ‘subjects in respect of which the state should accede to the Union of India.’
And it was understood that this Assembly would have the authority to determine the future course of Article 370.
On 5 August 2019, the Government of India issued a Presidential Order superseding the 1954 order and making all the provisions of the Indian constitution applicable to Jammu and Kashmir. The order was based on a resolution passed with a two-thirds majority in both houses of India’s parliament. A further order on 6 August made all the clauses of Article 370 except clause one inoperative.
In addition, the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act 2019 was passed by the parliament, enacting the division of the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the Union Territory of Ladakh. The reorganization took place on 31 October 2019.
