Melbourne Victory have officially appointed Arthur Diles as their head coach on a permanent basis, securing his services until the end of the 2025-26 A-League Men season. Diles had been serving as interim coach since the departure of Patrick Kisnorbo.
After a winless initial six games as interim, Diles secured his first victory with a 2-0 win over Sydney FC in Round 16. Reflecting on his transition, Diles acknowledged the challenging circumstances of his appointment but expressed confidence in the team’s navigation of the change. He emphasized the club’s unwavering standards and expectations, reiterating the focus on delivering consistent, high-quality performances and playing an exciting brand of football for the fans. Diles aims to translate these processes into points and trophies, both this season and beyond.
Prior to stepping into the head coaching role, Diles served as a Senior Assistant Coach at Melbourne Victory for 18 months, working under both current Socceroos coach Graham Arnold and former coach Patrick Kisnorbo. This experience within the club has provided him with valuable insight and understanding of the team’s dynamics.
Melbourne Victory Director of Football, John Didulica, praised Diles’ commitment and ability to implement the desired game model, emphasizing his focus on developing talent from the club’s academy and his strong rapport within the team. Didulica expressed confidence in Diles’ leadership and the squad’s potential to achieve silverware in 2025, despite recent setbacks.
Diles’ coaching staff will include Assistant Coach Nick Stavroulakis and Football Analyst Patrick Hooper, both recent additions to the club.
Chairman John Dovaston highlighted Diles’ contributions to the club’s recent successes, including reaching the Grand Final and Australia Cup Final in 2024 and achieving promotion to the NPL. While acknowledging the desire for further improvement, Dovaston affirmed Diles’ deserved opportunity to lead the men’s program and deliver success for the fans and members.
This appointment comes on the heels of Melbourne Victory’s recent signing of central defender Lachlan Jackson on an 18-month contract from K League 1 side Suwon FC. Currently sitting 6th on the A-League Men ladder, Victory’s next challenge is an away fixture against Perth Glory in Round 17.
