PASOK accuses PM of attempting to evade responsibility for Tempe rail crash

Main opposition PASOK accused Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of trying to “evade his responsibilities” over the Tempi disaster following his interview on Wednesday.

The party rejected Mitsotakis’ statements regarding the cause of the fire after the train collision, as well as his explanation that he was merely relaying the information he had at the time.

“Honestly, if the protests hadn’t taken place on Sunday, would Mr. Mitsotakis have said all this? When did he realize that his statements on March 21, 2023, were untrue?” PASOK questioned in its statement.

“In his attempt to cling to power, Mitsotakis contradicted himself, proving that he is entirely unreliable, even when handling a tragedy in which 57 lives were unjustly lost,” it added.

Additionally, PASOK criticized the prime minister’s remark that “the parliamentary inquiry committee was not Parliament’s finest moment,” arguing that “perhaps he should direct that criticism toward his own MPs, who did everything in their power to turn it into a farce.”
