A 3-year-old boy has been taken to hospital in the city of Iraklio, Crete, and intubated, having apparently been beaten and tortured by its mother and her partner.
Medical authorities were alerted by a neighbor and took charge of the comatose child Sunday morning.
The boy had a head injury, blood clots in the brain and stomach, as well as old wounds, including cigarette burns.
His mother, 26, and her 44-year-old have been arrested and face charges of abuse and domestic violence.
