Thessaloniki Wins Top City Break Honour in London

Thessaloniki has won the Best City Break Award for the second consecutive year at the Greek Travel Awards 2026 in London, beating strong competition from destinations across Greece.

The award ceremony took place on Thursday at London’s historic Saddler’s Hall as part of the World Travel Market (WTM), one of the international tourism industry’s major trade exhibitions.

The Thessaloniki Tourism Organisation (TTO) said the distinction confirmed the city’s steadily rising profile on the international tourism map and strengthened its position as an attractive European destination for short city breaks.

TTO Director General Dr Kyriaki Oudatzi received the award from Aaron Burns, a senior executive at airline easyJet. Eleni Skarveli, director of the Greek National Tourism Organisation’s office in the United Kingdom and Ireland, also attended the ceremony.

The Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) organised the event to showcase the diversity of Greece’s tourism experiences and recognise the people contributing to the country’s reputation as an inspiring year-round travel destination.

The Thessaloniki Tourism Organisation said the second consecutive award recognised its sustained efforts to promote the city internationally, particularly in the British market, where Thessaloniki continues to strengthen its visibility and appeal.

The organisation said its strategy reflects the vision of its president and Thessaloniki Mayor Stelios Angeloudis for a city with a strong international identity and sustainable development prospects.

It also highlighted cooperation between the tourism organisation, tourism professionals, chambers of commerce, institutional bodies and other local stakeholders as essential to strengthening Thessaloniki’s international standing.

The organisation said coordinated action and collective efforts would help further enhance the city’s position in the international tourism market.
