The Environment and Energy Ministry has approved a proposal by Chevron and Helleniq Energy to search for hydrocarbons in the sea zones within the concession areas Block A2 and South of Peloponnese, according to a press release by the Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company (HEREMA) on Wednesday.

HEREMA said it had submitted its advisory to the ministry regarding the start of the licensing process for new concessions for hydrocarbon exploration and production rights. The advisory was accepted with a ministerial decision issued on Tuesday.

According to the press release, “HEREMA recommended the acceptance, on behalf of the Greek state, of the expression of interest submitted by the companies Chevron and Helleniq Energy for the concessions ‘South of Peloponnese’ and ‘Block A2.’ In addition, HEREMA’s advisory pertained to the exact boundaries of the new areas and the invitation to tender process to be followed for the relevant ministerial decisions to be issued.”

HEREMA is currently finalizing the draft of the international invitation to a tender for the concessions, which will be submitted to the ministry by the end of January.
