Stefanos Tsitsipas has made a winning start at the Shanghai Masters, defeating Belgian qualifier Kimmer Coppejans in straight sets to advance to the second round.
The Greek star, ranked No. 43 in the world, overcame the world No. 232 6-3, 7-5 in a composed opening-round performance.
Tsitsipas quickly found his rhythm against Coppejans, breaking clear in the opening set to take it 6-3.
The second set was more closely contested, but the Greek produced when it mattered most, closing it out 7-5 to secure his place in the round of 64.
Tsitsipas now faces a significantly tougher test against No. 18 seed Luciano Darderi in the next round.
The Shanghai victory gives the Greek another opportunity to build momentum as he looks to climb back up the ATP rankings.
