
Selected blue chips such as some energy stocks gave the Greek bourse’s benchmark a fresh boost on Monday, taking it to a new 13.5-year high at the very end of the closing bids. Turnover may have been reduced due to the US holiday, but the market’s interest remained strong ahead of the inauguration of Donald Trump at the White House and his first statements as US president – again.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,530.87 points, adding 0.41% to Friday’s 1,524.67 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index expanded 0.50%, ending at 3,738.58 points, though mid-caps contracted 0.23%.
The banks index fetched 0.24%, as National grew 1.80% and Piraeus earned 1.18%, while Eurobank parted with 1.61% and Alpha gave up 0.73%. Optima stayed put. Metlen rose 2.79%, whereas ElvalHalcor declined 3.45% and Helleniq Energy dropped 2.34%.
In total 42 stocks reported gains, 55 posted losses and 27 remained unchanged.
Turnover amounted to 155.3 million euros, down from last Friday’s €185.2 million.
In Nicosia, the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange decreased 0.17% to close at 228.54 points.
