The Wiggles have brought Greek language, food and culture to St George College in Adelaide with the launch of their new song, “Spanakopita”.
Wiggles founding member Anthony Field, alongside Lucia Field, recently returned to the school to launch the song, which encourages children to engage with and learn the Greek language through music.
The visit held particular significance for the St George College community, as Anthony and Lucia had visited the school several months earlier to film footage for the song. Students took part in the filming and later watched the project come to life at the launch.
The Foundation for Hellenic Studies funds the initiative, which promotes Greek language learning through music and popular children’s entertainment.
For St George College, the project connects language learning with Hellenic culture in an engaging and accessible way for young students.
The choice of spanakopita, one of Greece’s best-known traditional foods, adds a distinctly Greek element to the project, introducing children to Greek words and culture through a catchy and memorable song.
St George College has a long-standing connection to the Greek Orthodox faith and Hellenic heritage, and continues to explore creative ways to promote Greek language and culture among future generations.

The collaboration with The Wiggles brings together education, music, language, food and culture while giving students the opportunity to participate in a project that can reach children and families well beyond the school community.
For the students, however, the launch was ultimately about singing, dancing and celebrating Greek culture with The Wiggles — showing that learning a language can be both enjoyable and meaningful.
