Greece Open UEFA Nations League Campaign Against Serbia in Belgrade – Greek City Times

Greece begin their UEFA Nations League campaign against Serbia in Belgrade on Thursday night, with Ivan Jovanović’s side facing a difficult opening test in League A.

The match will be played at the Stadion Rajko Mitić, with kick-off scheduled for 7:45pm local time in Serbia on September 24. In Australia, the match will be played early on Friday morning, September 25.

Greece have been drawn alongside Serbia, Germany and the Netherlands in League A Group 2. The top two teams will advance to the quarter-finals.

Jovanović’s team enter the tournament after a mixed run of results in 2026. Greece have not won in their four matches this year, recording two draws and two defeats.

Their most recent competitive campaign ended with a goalless draw against Belarus, while they also suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Italy in June.

Despite that run, Greece have enjoyed a strong record in recent competitive matches. The national team won promotion to Nations League A after consecutive promotions, securing their place in the top tier with a 3-1 playoff victory over Scotland in March 2025.

Greece team news

Greece will be without Lazaros Rota, Dimitris Giannoulis and Giannis Konstantelias, who are unavailable through injury.

Former captain Tasos Bakasetas has also been left out of the squad.

Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas and West Ham centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos are expected to feature, while goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis is pushing Odysseas Vlachodimos for a starting place.

Young talents including Konstantinos Karetsas and Christos Mouzakitis are also in contention, while Brighton forward Charalampos Kostoulas has been included after making an impact at club level.

Serbia welcome back Tadic

Serbia will also begin a new Nations League campaign with several absences.

Aleksandar Mitrovic, Dusan Vlahovic and Nikola Milenkovic are among the players unavailable through injury, according to the latest team news.

One of the biggest stories surrounding the Serbian squad is the return of Dusan Tadic.

The 37-year-old has been selected again after previously retiring from international football following Euro 2024. He is in line to make his 112th appearance for Serbia.

Serbia have also endured a difficult run in 2026, including heavy defeats against Cape Verde and Mexico in friendly internationals.

The two nations have met twice previously, with each side recording one victory. Their most recent meeting came in November 2014, when Serbia won 2-0 in a friendly.

Where to watch Serbia vs Greece

The match will be broadcast in Greece through NOVA and Alpha TV, while RTS Serbia and Arena Sport will carry the game in Serbia. In the United States, coverage is available through FOX Sports, FuboTV and ViX.

For Australian viewers, the match kicks off in the early hours of Friday, September 25.

The Nations League fixture is the first of a demanding run for Greece, who will face the Netherlands and Germany in their following group matches. UEFA lists Greece’s next Nations League fixture against Serbia for November 16.

Greece will be looking to begin their return to the top tier of the Nations League with a positive result in Belgrade.
