Parents should not rely on the results of self-testing kits when their children are showing symptoms of Covid or the flu, as these infections often go hand-in-hand with other germs that can cause pneumonia, Athanasios Michas, an expert in pediatrics and epidemiology, warned on Saturday.
“There are many bacteria and viruses in our noses and throats, which often work off each other with a multiplying effect,” he told AMNA.
Noting that there are numerous respiratory infections going around right now and are expected to persist until mid-March, Michas, however, also urged parents not to rush their children to hospital with the first signs of illness, but to contact a pediatrician for instructions.
