APON has cancelled his scheduled concert in Patras on Monday, September 14, choosing not to take the stage on the day Giorgos Mazonakis will be laid to rest.
The two artists were not simply connected through Greek music. They had shared the stage, collaborated on one of Mazonakis’ most recognisable songs and performed together on The Voice.
Following Mazonakis’ sudden death, APON announced that his Patras performance would not go ahead.
“Due to the sudden and profound loss of Giorgos Mazonakis, my scheduled appearance in Patras is cancelled, as his funeral will be held on Monday, September 14, the day of the live show. In such moments, music takes a back seat. Thank you for your understanding,” APON wrote.
The decision has added another deeply emotional moment to the tributes surrounding the loss of one of the most distinctive voices in Greek music.
A final farewell instead of a night on stage
Monday was meant to be a night of music for APON and his audience in Patras.
Instead, the singer will step away from the stage as friends, colleagues, family and fans gather to say their final goodbye to Mazonakis.
