A 27-year-old German tourist suffered a brutal attack at a beach bar in Metamorfosi, Halkidiki, after two young men allegedly assaulted him in an incident captured on video.
The footage, obtained by Greek broadcaster MEGA, shows the two men chasing the tourist before one of them restrains him and punches him twice in the face, knocking him face-down onto the ground.
While holding him down, the attacker continues punching him in the head. The second man then kicks the tourist in the head, leaving him unconscious.
“I don’t know how long I was unconscious. When I regained consciousness, I saw that my right leg had been cut and was bleeding,” the victim said.
The situation quickly escalates. A second video, filmed just seconds later, shows the first alleged attacker arguing with other customers, while a friend of the two men punches people at the venue.
Some customers claim the attack stemmed from romantic jealousy. However, a friend of the two young men gave a different account of what happened beforehand.
He claimed he arrived at the bar at around 11pm and sat with his two friends before hearing a foreign man shouting nearby. He said he asked the man in English to calm down, but alleged that the man then struck him on the head, causing him to fall and become dizzy.
He claimed the German tourist ran away after the alleged confrontation and that the two men supported him because he had been hit first.
Following its investigation, police identified the two alleged attackers as men aged 25 and 21.
Authorities charged both men with causing dangerous bodily harm.
